Dual Force Putter
56I was in the market for a new Dual Force putter last year,
and spent an unreal amount of time testing out all the putters in the
local golf stores (I use the plural here, becuase I wanted to try
everything). Initially I went into this thinking I would walk away with
the hottest new thing, scotty cameron, whitehot, or a 2-ball, however
it quickly became aparent to me that this cheaper odyssy dual force was
equal to or better than many of the big boys.
I have a very straight back and through stroke and found that the
990 head model felt particularly balanced with this type of motion. I
cut it down to 33" and placed a golf pride tour wrap grip on it. Before
I particularly struggled with mid to short putts in the 12-4 foot
range. Since getting this putter a year ago this is now my favourite
length putt. Now when I read a line and putt it, it actually follows
the line, and I get what I deserve based on my green reading. The black
insert face I found to be very consistant and easy to judge distance be
it long or short. The feel is a little softer than a milled steel face
(although the cameron's steel feels just as soft), but not as soft as
the mushy white hots. Roll also appears to be ver good, with no hopping
or bouncing of the ball off the clubface. The two ball felt very good
in terms of balance, but that white hot face didn't fit the bill. The
Cameron Pro Platinum Laguna was just as good, but close to $200 more
with a lot of maintenance required for the finish. Similarly the Ping
Isopure (series 2 or 3 i think) felt great but was also a lot more
cash. Teardrops were pretty good as well, but sometimes putts came off
with a little two much speed (topspin almost).
If you're in the market for a forgiving, accurate, consistent,
putter and don't mind playing something a few years past prime take a
look at this one, and it won't cost you a fortune either.
By the way since picking this Dual Force putter up my index has dropped 8
strokes, in a little over a year. It'll be in my bag for a long time.
Dual Force Putter Review
Traded in my Never Compromise Z Theta putter in for this one about a month ago looking for a putter that was more responsive and I think I found it! I've only played one round with it but felt pretty good about the way it played. This putter has the stronomic insert which covers more of an area on the putter head than on the Dual Force putters which allows for more forgiving putts. I was trying to decide between this and the White Hot #1 and ended up choosing this one because I felt it performed better for my type of putting stroke-more firm and less soft. The WH #1 just felt too soft.. Plus the DFX is a dang good lookin' putter and that's important! Because if you feel good with the club you're playing with you'll play good! It looks great in the bag and you can tell a lot of TLC went into the design..I haven't seen any new reviews of this putter under Odyssey and the only place I felt my review would fit would be this section..Hopefully over the next few months, others will have discovered this putter and offer their opinions as well..In the meantime I'm still feeling it out and will post a more updated report in the near future!! So far I love it!!
